Description
Iridium is a chemical element with the symbol Ir and atomic number 77. A very hard, brittle, silvery- white transition metal of the platinum group, iridium is considered to be the second-densest metal (after osmium) with a density of 22.56 g/cm 3 as defined by experimental X-ray crystallography.
Properties
Iridium is less common than gold or platinum. In nature, it occurs elementally in the form of small grains or in the accompaniment of platinum. With osmium, it forms two naturally occurring minerals.
Deliverable form: Ir2O5

Application
Iridium is often included in alloys that give it hardness and/or brittleness. Platinum-iridium alloys are used in precision measurements, in medicine and mechanical engineering.
